Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team onthult World Sportbike-project
Een winter vol voorbereiding, lange dagen en veel doorzettingsvermogen. Dat typeert de afgelopen maanden voor het Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team. Op vrijdagavond 13 februari presenteerde het team in Harskamp officieel zijn nieuwe World Sportbike-project. In het bijzijn van sponsoren, partners, vrienden en familie werd het vernieuwde team en het internationale programma aan het publiek gepresenteerd.
Een nieuwe uitdaging betekent automatisch veel organisatie en voorbereiding. Het Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team onder leiding van Wiljan Wikselaar maakt de overstap van het EuroMoto-kampioenschap – voorheen IDM – naar het nieuwe FIM World Sportbike-kampioenschap. Deze stap brengt ook een nieuw merk met zich mee: het ambitieuze team komt in actie met de Suzuki GSX-8R. Daarnaast is ook het rijdersduo vernieuwd. Tweevoudig wereldkampioen Supersport 300 Jeffrey Buis maakt deel uit van dit nieuwe project, evenals het Belgische talent Ferre Fleerackers.
Voor Buis betekent dit een volgende stap in zijn carrière. Inmiddels heeft hij zijn eerste testkilometers gemaakt, met positieve geluiden als resultaat: “De eerste testen waren positief. De motor is stabiel en stuurt erg goed. Daarnaast beschikt de Suzuki over veel koppel en het potentieel is zeker aanwezig.”
Fleerackers heeft zijn kwaliteiten in de Sportbike-klasse al bewezen. Afgelopen seizoen kwam hij uit in het British Sportbike-kampioenschap, waar hij een overwinning behaalde, meerdere podiumplaatsen pakte en het seizoen als tweede in de eindstand afsloot. “Ik ben blij dat ik de stap kan maken naar het wereldkampioenschap; dit is een droom die uitkomt. Ook de overstap naar Suzuki is een mooie ontwikkeling. Deze machine heeft zich afgelopen seizoen sterk laten zien, wat mij enorm motiveert om aan de slag te gaan.”
De ambities binnen het jonge raceteam liggen hoog. Hoewel het World Sportbike-kampioenschap een compleet nieuwe klasse is op wereldniveau, zijn de verwachtingen duidelijk. “Het is op dit moment lastig te zeggen waar we exact staan. Voor iedereen is het een nieuw kampioenschap met nieuwe motoren en zonder vergelijkingsmateriaal. Dat zal duidelijker worden tijdens de laatste tests en de eerste raceweekenden. Maar we zijn hier niet alleen om deel te nemen; we willen meestrijden om de titel,” aldus teameigenaar Wiljan Wikselaar.
Tijdens de teampresentatie werd tevens de kleurstelling voor het aankomende seizoen onthuld. Met veel enthousiasme werd gekeken naar de nieuwe Suzuki GSX-8R-machines, voorzien van een frisse en herkenbare livery. Eind deze maand reist het team af naar Zuid-Europa voor de eerste gezamenlijke tests, waarna het seizoen eind maart van start gaat. De openingsronde vindt plaats van vrijdag 27 tot en met zondag 29 maart op het Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal.
A winter filled with preparation, long hours and determination — that best describes the past months for the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team. On Friday evening, February 13, the team officially presented its new World Sportbike project during a team launch event in Harskamp. In the presence of sponsors, partners, friends and family, the international program and renewed team structure were proudly revealed.
A new challenge naturally brings a lot of preparation. Under the leadership of team owner Wiljan Wikselaar, the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team makes the step from the EuroMoto Championship — formerly IDM — to the brand-new FIM World Sportbike Championship. This transition also marks the start of a new partnership, as the ambitious Dutch team will compete with the Suzuki GSX-8R.
The rider line-up has also been strengthened, with two-time World Supersport 300 Champion Jeffrey Buis joining the project alongside talented Belgian rider Ferre Fleerackers.
For Buis, this represents the next step in his career. He has already completed his first test sessions, sharing positive feedback: “The first tests were very positive. The bike is stable and handles well. The Suzuki also has strong torque, and the potential is definitely there.”
Fleerackers has already proven his capabilities in the Sportbike category. Last season he competed in the British Sportbike Championship, where he secured a race win, multiple podium finishes and ultimately finished second in the overall standings.
“I’m very happy to make the step to the world championship — it’s a dream come true. Moving to Suzuki is also a great development. The bike has shown strong performance last season, which motivates me even more to get started.”
Ambitions within the young racing team are high. Although the World Sportbike Championship is a completely new class at world level, expectations are clear.
“It’s still difficult to determine exactly where we stand. For everyone, it’s a new championship with new machinery and no direct reference points. That will become clearer during the final tests and the opening race weekends. But we are not here just to participate — we aim to fight for the title,” said team owner Wiljan Wikselaar.
During the team presentation, the 2026 livery was also revealed. The new Suzuki GSX-8R machines were showcased with a fresh and distinctive design, receiving an enthusiastic response from the public
Later this month, the team will travel to Southern Europe for the first test sessions before the season officially begins at the end of March. The opening round of the 2026 FIM World Sportbike Championship will take place from March 27 to 29 at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal.
