Historisch thuisweekend in Assen met eerste WK-overwinning en dubbel podium
Het raceweekend op het TT Circuit Assen zal voor het Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team de boeken ingaan als een historisch moment. Tijdens de thuisronde van het team dat onlangs zijn debuut maakte op wereldniveau – wist het team een dubbele overwinningen te behalen met Jeffrey Buis en Ferre Fleerackers. En dat in eigen land waarbij iedereen aanwezig was om het team te supporten.
Vanaf de eerste meters op vrijdag werd duidelijk dat het tempo aanwezig was bij beide rijders. In de kwalificatie zette Jeffrey een sterke prestatie neer door zich op de eerste startrij te plaatsen met een tweede tijd. Ferre Fleerackers volgde met een solide zesde positie, waarmee beide rijders zich verzekerden van een uitstekende uitgangspositie voor de races.
De eerste race op zaterdag bracht direct een hoogtepunt. In een sterke wedstrijd wist Jeffrey de overwinning te pakken — de allereerste overwinning voor het team in dit nieuwe wereldkampioenschap. Een bijzonder moment, waarbij het Wilhelmus klonk op het TT Circuit Assen. Fleerackers kwam nipt te kort voor het podium en volgde op een nette vijfde positie. Voor rijder, team en iedereen die betrokken is bij het project was dit een onvergetelijk moment, zeker in het bijzijn van het thuispubliek, partners, sponsoren, vrienden en familie.
Op zondag liet het team opnieuw zien tot de top te behoren. Beide rijders reden een ijzersterke race en waren gedurende de wedstrijd continu vooraan het veld te vinden. Deze sterke prestaties werden beloond met een overwinning voor Fleerackers die hiermee na lange tijd het Belgisch volkslied liet klinken. Buis volgde op een derde plaats, wat een dubbel podium voor het Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team betekende. Een indrukwekkende thuiswedstrijd met vooraf ondenkbare resultaten.
Met deze resultaten heeft het Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team zijn potentie in het debuutseizoen op wereldniveau ijzersterk laten zien. Het team heeft laten zien direct mee te kunnen doen in de voorhoede van het veld en belangrijke stappen te zetten binnen dit nieuwe kampioenschap.
“Dit was een weekend voor in de boeken. Vanaf vrijdag zaten we er in elke sessie goed bij en stonden we continu in de top drie. Dat betekende dat onze snelheid in orde was. In beide races heb ik volop kunnen strijden, onder andere met mijn teamgenoot Ferre. In de eerste race viel alles op zijn plek en konden we de overwinning pakken, gevolgd door een derde plaats in de tweede race. Twee podiums in onze thuisrace, en een dubbel podium voor het team, maakt dit extra bijzonder. Om dit samen met het Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team te realiseren maakt helemaal speciaal. Dank aan iedereen voor de support dit weekend, het was fantastisch.”
“Het weekend in Assen is één om niet snel te vergeten. In de eerste race was het heel spijtig om net niet op het podium te komen na een sterke race maar daar kon ik van leren voor race twee waar ik mijn eerste overwinning wist te behalen in het wereldkampioenschap. En om dan samen met Jeffrey op het podium te staan in het team hun thuiswedstrijd is een geweldig gevoel! Ik wil het team en iedereen eromheen enorm bedanken voor dit weekend!”
“Dit is een resultaat waar we als team enorm trots op zijn. Achter de schermen is er de afgelopen maanden keihard gewerkt om dit niveau te bereiken. Lange dagen, korte nachten en een enorme toewijding van iedereen binnen het team hebben geleid tot dit moment. Onze rijders hebben dit weekend laten zien waar ze toe in staat zijn. Ze hebben gevochten voor elke positie en het maximale uit het pakket gehaald. Om dat vervolgens tijdens onze thuisrace in Assen te belonen met twee overwinningen en een dubbel podium maakt het extra bijzonder. Dit soort weekenden zijn het resultaat van echt teamwork en geven veel vertrouwen voor de rest van het seizoen.”
Na dit sterke optreden in Assen staan Buis en Fleerackers tweede en derde in het wereldkampioenschap. De volgende ronde van het FIM World Sportbike World Championship vindt plaats van 15 tot en met 17 mei op het Autodrom Most in Tsjechië.
The race weekend at the TT Circuit Assen will go down as a historic milestone for the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team. During the team’s home round — shortly after making its debut at world level — the team secured two race victories with Jeffrey Buis and Ferre Fleerackers. All of this took place on home soil, with strong support from fans, partners, sponsors, friends and family.
From the very first laps on Friday, it was clear that both riders had strong pace. In qualifying, Jeffrey delivered an excellent performance by securing a front row start with a second place. Ferre Fleerackers followed with a solid sixth position, placing both riders in an excellent position for the races.
Saturday’s Race 1 delivered an immediate highlight. In a strong and controlled race, Jeffrey took the victory — marking the very first win for the team in this new world championship. It was a special moment as the Dutch national anthem was played at TT Circuit Assen. Fleerackers narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing in a solid fifth place. For the rider, the team and everyone involved in the project, it was an unforgettable moment — especially in front of the home crowd.
On Sunday, the team once again proved its strength. Both riders delivered an outstanding race and were consistently running at the front of the field throughout. Their performance was rewarded with a victory for Fleerackers, marking a special moment as the Belgian national anthem was played. Buis followed in third place, securing a double podium finish for the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team. An impressive home round with results that exceeded expectations.
With these results, the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team has clearly demonstrated its potential in its debut season at world level. The team has shown it can immediately compete at the front and continues to make important progress in this new championship.
“This was a weekend to remember. From Friday onwards we were competitive in every session and consistently in the top three, which showed that our pace was strong. In both races I was able to fight at the front, including with my teammate Ferre. In Race 1 everything came together and we were able to take the win, followed by a third place in Race 2. Two podiums at our home race, and a double podium for the team, makes this extra special. To achieve this together with the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team makes it even more meaningful. In the first race it was disappointing to just miss out on the podium after a strong performance, but I was able to learn from that for Race 2, where I achieved my first victory in the world championship. Following this strong performance in Assen, Buis and Fleerackers now hold second and third positions in the championship standings. The next round of the FIM World Sportbike World Championship will take place from May 15 to 17 at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic.
